My Dog Can Preach

40 lessons of God's Love Unleashed!

Roxanne Worsham

“Ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you;  or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you.

Which of these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In His hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.”

 (Job 12:7-10)

"

Just like our dogs will always be relational because of their very nature, we are the same.  We were born to be in relationship with one another and with Jesus our Lord.

About My Dog Can Preach

My Dog Can Preach…and yours can too!

There’s no denying that God is always speaking—be it through His Word, a friend, creation, or even an animal. The question is…are we always listening? Are we looking for God and His love that is all around us?

In this delightful collection of stories, Roxanne Worsham recounts messages of God’s love that she learned by observing the characteristics and behaviors of her beloved dogs, Scout and Arrow. These light-hearted story vignettes are fun, engaging, and full of inspiration. “My Dog Can Preach” shows clearly how God will use anything, even your dog to catch your attention in order to unleash His love in every area of your life!

In His hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.”

  • How long did it take you to write "My Dog Can Preach"?"
I have had this book in my heart since 2004, but it wasn't until the pandemic of 2020 when I felt it was time to share it with the world. I enrolled in a writing course via Zoom that was an absolute lifesaver. My coach, Joanna, was amazing! Once I started writing, the book only took me 16 weeks to complete. Every morning I would pray and ask the Lord to make me the scribe of a ready writer and to please give me an author's anointing. Then I would ask the Holy Spirit what He wanted to say in this book. The words just flowed. Truly this book was such a joy to write! When you partner with the Holy Spirit, He makes you look smart!
  • What's your favorite passage in the book?
I have so many favorites in this book that it is hard to choose just one. I love the one entitled "A Great Gift" because it is a story of Scout coming to live with our family. He was a Christmas gift to our son Rob. It goes on to talk about the GREATEST GIFT any of us could ever receive and that is Jesus Christ. I love the story entitled "I Will Never Leave You." It is precious to me because it was the very first message Scout ever spoke to me. That is when I called my mom and told her all about it. It was my mom suggesting to me that I write these stories down that produced this book. I also love "More is Caught than Taught." It speaks about the influence that each of us carry. We are always giving a message or teaching something whether we realize it or not. We need to be mindful of that because people are always watching us and gleaning from us just as we do them.
  • I noticed Victoria Osteen provided your foreword, how do you know each other?"
I met Victoria Osteen at a mom's prayer group when our sons were in the first grade. She and I were paired up to pray together and I have to adimit, I was so nervous! She is so beautiful and so anointed! Two years later Scout joined our family. Shortly thereafter the Osteens bought a shih-tzu for their children. Victoria and I would talk on the phone alot about our new puppies. Our dogs are what really solidified our friendship. A few years later, I became the homeschool teacher for Joel and Victoria's children. Victoria and I prayed together for our children every morning before school started. Our sons were college roommates for two years as well. We prayed for our children together from first grade all the way through college and beyond. It has been a full circle friendship and my life has been tremendously blessed as they have all left an indelible mark upon me. I am eternally grateful for Joel, Victoria, Jonathan and Alexandra. What an amazing family!
  • What are your hopes for this book?
My greatest hope for this book is that we would all begin to see God everywhere we look. I know He is always speaking, but sometimes we miss Him because we are not listening or are too busy to acknowledge Him. He is not a far-away God, but He is as close as the very breath that we breathe. He is waiting for an invitation from each of us so that we can have a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus. I hope this book makes people laugh and brings them joy. I also hope it makes them think more about the Lord and draws them closer to the heart of the Father.
  • Do you have any advice you'd like to share or final comments?
Well that is a loaded question! Hahaha! How much time do I have? I just want to tell you how much Jesus loves you. You are not a mistake or a disappointment to Him. He loves you with a perfect love. We all learned the song "Jesus loves me this I know..." but sometimes I wonder if we really truly know the depth of His love for us. All He wants in return is all of you. Not in part, but in whole. You can trust Him with your life, for He is the One who gave it to you. Every morning I ask God to give me a little more "real estate" of His heart so that I can love Him more completely and love all of those He puts in my path. The best gift we can give our Heavenly Father is to love Him with all that we have and love others the same. That is what I pray we all strive to do.

Reader's Notes

Roxanne Worsham is a dear family friend and a remarkable woman who shares her joy and her wisdom freely.  She has done both in her new book, My Dog Can Preach.  In it, Roxanne reveals how she found God’s purpose and love in something as simple as her dog, Scout.  I believe Roxanne’s insightful observations will be as great a blessing to you and your family as they have always been to ours.
